My Blog bio picture

Hello and thank you for stopping by my blog.

Here you will see what I am up to, I try and keep my blog updated with recent shoots that I have done or any exciting news I have.

As a photographer I am not big on words but prefer to convey myself through photographs. So please enjoy scrolling through my images.

The photo on the right is of myself with my family taken while we were on holiday a little while ago. I put the camera on a tripod and used the "timer" function to be able to be in the picture. I always try update our family photos as I know our kids are growing and changing so quickly.

A Year in review

As I write this blog post reflecting on the year of 2010 I am sitting in my parents lounge in my hometown of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, I have had 5 weeks of blissful holiday with my beautiful family, my kids being spoilt rotten by their grandparents and lots of time to play outside and get to know their cousins again.  It has been a year and a half since we were out last but as my brother and his fiance were getting married on the 18th December we came out for an extended holiday over the festive period.  I wasn’t the official photographer at the wedding but took my camera with me and managed to get a few shots of the happy couple.  I will be blogging more photos at a later date but below are a couple of Matt and Sam from the wedding.

2010 – what a year it turned out to be.  It was a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end, lots of ups and lots of downs but I am pleased to say that it ended on a very positive note.

Last year I completed my first full year of being in business, I have been taking photographs for a number of years with friends and family but after having my daughter I decided to make it into a full time career.  I have been blessed with two beautiful children, Matt my almost 4 year old son and Sam, my 2 and a half year old daughter, they keep me constantly busy and entertained and when I am not with them I am either shooting, behind the computer editing, marketing or networking.  My days are never dull and boring, there is always so much to do and not enough time to do it in!

I have met so many wonderful people in the last year through photography.  I am amazed every day at how photographers are so giving with information and their experience that they share with other photographers.  I have done many courses in my time, I am constantly looking at ways to improve my skills and business.  Last year I completed the Aspire Bespoke Course which helped me develop my brand and my business,Jane and Catherine at the Studio were a great help as I spent many hours discussing many different ways to develop a business I am very proud of today.  I have been on courses with Brett Harkness, Lisa Aldersley, Sandy Puc, Jerry Ghionis to name a few, they have opened my eyes and my mind to many techniques and idea’s I now use in my business constantly.

In August 2010 we moved into our new home further out of London, this new home has my very own studio and office space attached to it.  I absolutely love it and have been working on ways to make it an ideal spot for meetings, viewings and photoshoots.  Although I do use natural light as much as possible having my studio space available allows me to do shoots any time during the day, winter and summer, rain or shine.  This shot was taking in my studio, Lyla was a week old and an absolute dream to work with.

Through networking I have made some brilliant friends and contacts, I have learnt that word of mouth is the best form of marketing and because of this my business has grown dramatically in the last 6 months.  I enjoy meeting up with familiar faces at my weekly and monthly meetings, hearing how everyone else’s business are doing and finding ways in which we can help each other out.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me grow and develop my business over the last year, it hasn’t been easy but I have learnt so much and have gained so much experience from everything that has happened, good and bad.

To my wonderful supportive husband, thank you so much for your constant advice, for helping out with the kids when I have needed help and for being my rock through getting my dream business off the ground.

I am really excited about the year ahead, I have many new services and ideas I will be implementing to my business which are still in the final stages of being finalised.  Once they are all set I will be blogging about them to let you know.

Happy 2011 everyone, I hope you all have a fabulous year!

Lovely post and congratulations on launching a great business all the best for 2011

Two beautiful dogs

Louise called me up one day to ask if I would be interested in taking photographs of her dogs.  I have taken many photographs of dogs and families before and grew up with dogs around me constantly so I jumped at the opportunity.  Zulu and Impi (I love their names) were such well behaved and fun dogs to work with.  We started off taking some photographs at home so they could get used to me and the camera being around them then went off to a forrest where they go for walks all the time, they were in an environment that felt familiar to them so didn’t play up at all.  Mandy brought a ball with her to throw around for them knowing that we would get some perfect action shots that way.  Below are some of the images from their shoot:

Thank you to Louise and Mandy for such a fun session, I enjoyed every moment of it.

Jenni & Sam’s Wedding

I had the privilege of shooting Jenni & Sam’s Wedding in October.  Their Wedding was absolutely beautiful filled with lots of love and happy tears.  We were very lucky withthe weather on the day with rain threatening at any minute but managed to get some beautiful images outside before the rain came.  Jenni & Sam live in a beautiful village in Gloucestershire where everything is within walking distance of each other which made things very easy.  Here are some photos of Jenni at their home before we left for the Church:

Their services was very personal and meaningful.

After the Group shots we went for a quick drive to a place that has special meaning to them.  The river where Sam proposed to Jenni. By this time the light was starting to fade on us so we had to use a bit of flash but we still managed to get some lovely images.

Thanks again to Jenni, Sam and their families for making me feel so welcome on their special day.

Lyla C Newborn Shoot

Hazel had her maternity photographs taken at 36 weeks (which can be seen here), we had such a laugh during her session so I knew that their newborn session would be just as fun.

We did Lyla’s photoshoot when she was exactly 7 days old.  She was an absolute dream to work with (no pun intended).  She litterally slept throughout the session, waking up for a little feed but that was about it.  It was very difficult to narrow down the choice to place on this blog post so there are a few more photographs than usual for you to see:

These are absolutely stunning Penny, beautifully captured.

Hazel’s Maternity Photoshoot

Hazel was 36 weeks pregnant when we did this photoshoot, I am sure that you will agree with me that she is absolutely glowing!  We had great fun during her session with many laughs.  Can’t wait for your baby shoot!
