My last course of 2012 was held in Pietermaritzburg, Natal. I had a lovely group of eager to learn students from real beginners to some who knew a bit about photography. We spent the first day learning the different settings on their cameras and what each setting could be used for, all the while practicing what we were learning on the flowers, running water or cars driving by. Day two was spent learning about composition / various techniques that can be used in photographyand dealing with bright sunlight. The afternoon of day one saw a big storm hit PMB so some of the students managed to capture their kids playing in the rain, using Shutter Speed mode and the results were amazing, something they wouldn’t have been able to do before the course. Here are some photographs of everyone during the course:
On day two I ask “models” to come in for a mini photography session where I talk through different situations the students may experience when photographing children, I get them to try different modes on their camera as well as incorporating different backdrops. By bringing models in it allows the students to work under pressure, having to think quickly on their feet and try different options to get the results they are after. I am always there to answer any questions they may have and also give tips as we go along of how they could improve any potential photographs.
Here are some of the photographs that I managed to capture:
Here are a few comments from the feedback forms:
