a little bit about me
I thought I would create an ‘About Me’ page so you can get a sense of who I am, hopefully this will help you relax a bit more knowing the person I am and that having a photoshoot done can be a fun and joyful experience for all of you.
When I was pregnant with my first child I took my first beginners photography course. I practiced practiced and practiced some more with him as my subject. It was when my second child arrived that I fell in love with newborn photography and thought I should try take it further. I signed up to a years long business course while we were living in the UK and officially started my business, Penny Carolan Photography, in 2009.
After living in the UK for 12 years we decided to relocate back to South Africa in 2012 so our children could have an outdoor lifestyle and we could be closer to family. We lived in a picturesque place just outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo for 7 years before moving to Howick in Natal where we are now based, surrounded by family and friends and lots of beautiful outdoor places.
My house is full of pictures, I force my family to have a photoshoot done at least every other year, sometimes I do these shoots myself, other times we hire a photographer to take photographs for us. I love being surrounded by beautiful photographs and memories from different areas and times in our lives.
This image below was taken at a spot we often go for walks and sundowners as a family in the Howick conservancy, I took this image just before my son went overseas for a gap year, I’ve had it printed and framed and just love it, so many beautiful memories at this spot:)

In my time as a photographer I have attended many courses both here and abroad, I am constantly learning new things via online training and keeping up with the trend as well as investing in new props for my business so I can offer my clients nothing but the best.
With my photography I always remain very calm and confident in my work, a crying baby or tantruming toddler doesn’t scare me – I am often able to get them to calm down so I can capture the images that I know you will want.
