WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Because this magical stage of life passes in the blink of an eye, newborn portraits are captured during the first two weeks of life while your little one is sleepy and content. I will keep your due date on file and stay in touch with you as the exciting day approaches, making adjustments to fit you in at just the perfect time. Newborns are captured alone to start, we use a swaddling blanket while they are still falling into that deep sleep and capture their little features then, once they are fast asleep we move onto the naked poses, these are the images we find that are treasured the most, it is so easy to forget how tiny and innocent they once were. Once we are satisfied that we have taken enough images of your baby alone on a variety of different blankets, using different props and hats (should you wish), all provided by me, we will then move onto the family poses.
A newborn shoot is never rushed and can last up to 3 hours, lots of time is set aside for feeding/burping and cleaning up little messes should they happen. I have many years experience handling and photographing newborns so you can relax, knowing that I will take the utmost care of your little one during his/her first photography session.
I do understand that this is an investment, if you would like to chat about a payment plan, please do get in touch and we can work out what works best for you. Once full payment has been settled your images will be released.

NEWBORN MINI SHOOT
Photoshoot to take place in my Studio in Howick.
If you are desperate to document this special time in your lives but are not wanting to invest in a bespoke newborn session then a mini-session is for you. This session will last up to an hour and your baby will remain wrapped in swaddles for the session (similar to the images above), we will be able to get a photo of Mom and Baby, Dad and Baby, family photo as well as 1 prop photograph and a photograph on the beanbag with a few different wrap colours. These sessions are only available during the week at my studio in Howick.

FRESH 48 – AN IN HOSPITAL MINI SHOOT
Having a baby is an overwhelming and emotional experience, one so special that being able to capture some of the emotion and newness of it all will be something you will treasure. I introduce to you my “Fresh 48” sessions, these are photographed in hospital, at your home or birthing centre within the first 48 hours of your baby’s birth.
I will be able to capture details for you that you may otherwise forget. The hospital basket, the hospital bracelet, the information card, your babies first cuddles with siblings or treasured cuddles with Mom and Dad. This is all done using natural light, there is no posing involved, if your baby is awake we will get awake shots, if your baby is asleep we will get asleep shots, it is a very relaxed shoot aiming to capture the emotion of the moment. These sessions will take a maximum of 30 minutes.

LIFESTYLE NEWBORN SESSION
A lifestyle newborn photoshoot is different from a posed newborn session in that the baby mainly remains clothed, it doesn’t matter if he/she is asleep or awake during the shoot. These sessions take place at your home and we will work in a room with lots of natural light. I will not bring any of the props/lights, or any of the other items I use for my posed newborn sessions, with me.
The session usually lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 mins, depending on if the baby needs to be fed or changed.

Mileage of 40kms (return) is included in the package, additional mileage will be charged after this. 20 High Resolution JPEGS of your choice (given to you in colour and black and white) via a file sharing platform.
DIGITAL COMPOSITES
Introducing my digital composite images. These images are taken on a beanbag and then photoshopped into a background of your choice. There is a wide variety of digital backdrops that can be chosen to match up to any nursery theme or idea you may have. The work involved in perfecting these images is intensive with a great deal of attention to detail needed. Purchasing the actual digital backdrops is expensive, however we can create an image unique to your little one. Please give me an idea of what theme you have in your nursery or what image you would like to create and I will send you a few examples of what we can achieve before going ahead with the composite.
Digital Composite Images are R350 per image for new designs or R200 for designs already in our portfolio, please note these are not included in the Newborn Packages as they are a unique request.

How long does a session take?
Newborn shoots can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on how often baby is needing feeding and extra cuddles from mom.
I would like my husband to be involved, do you work weekends?
Yes I do, weekend sessions are an additional R200, these dates get booked up very quickly so please book sooner rather than later.
Am I able to purchase additional images should I want?
Yes. Additional images are:
R80 per image; or
depending on how many images we are able to capture and shared in your gallery, the maximum amount will be charged at R1000 for all the images.
I had a really tough labour and don’t want to be in the photographs, is that ok?
Yes, I do understand that some Mom‘s have a horrible labour, I do, however, always ask you to let me take a few photographs of you with your newborn, you don’t have to buy them if you don‘t want them but from experience I know that these photographs are cherished, not only by the Mom and Dad, but by your child as well.
What must we wear?
All your outfits should coordinate in colour and, if possible, no writing or distracting pictures on shirts/tops. Please bring a change of clothes incase baby messes on you if we are taking naked baby family photographs.
Where will the photoshoots take place?
They can either take place at my Studio in Howick, or I can come to your home. I will need a room with lots of space as I bring all my props / blankets as well as a big beanbag with me for the photoshoot.
How many photographs do you take?
I take a large number photographs on your shoot. I will edit them down and show you approximately 30-40 from your newborn session.
Do you have any props you can use for my Newborn Photoshoot?
Yes, I have numerous props I have collected from all over the world. Please let me know before the photoshoot if there is a particular set-up you would like so I can make sure that I am prepared for you. If there is a particular prop that you want used in your shoot that is not shown in my images, please also let me know and I will see if I can locate one.
I really want a newborn photoshoot but can’t afford your full package
I do understand that having your photographs taken is an investment and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed in your images. I do offer payment plans so if you would like to pay your shoot off monthly, please let me know. You will only receive your images once your final invoice has been settled.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep
Before the session I will send you an information pack with lots of details in there of how to prepare for your session which usually helps the session run smoothly, however if your baby is not interested in sleeping on the day of your shoot, that’s ok, we can wrap him/her up and still get some beautiful eyes open photographs which you will still love.
THE SMALL PRINT (TERMS AND CONDITIONS) PLEASE CLICK TO READ FURHTER
– 50% of your shoot fee is payable on booking to confirm your session, balance is due the week before your photoshoot. Please note that the booking fee is non refundable, you may change your shoot date once, after this you forfeit your booking fee.
– Approximately a week after your photoshoot a ‘sneak peek’ will be uploaded to Penny Carolan Photography’s Facebook Page for you to see a few of your images. If you DO NOT want your images to be shared, please let me know before or during your photoshoot.
– Approximately 2 weeks after your shoot your images will be uploaded to a secure online gallery where you will be able to view, share and choose your images. Your gallery will be live for 1 week, as this is a paid service for the Photographer, an extra charge of R100 per week will be added to your final bill should you need to extend it past the 1 week date.
– If there is a product you would like a quote on please ask and a quote will be sent to you. All print and product orders are placed through a professional photographic lab in Gauteng.
– All digital orders are sent via dropbox. If you choose the highest package your images will be given to you on USB.
– All print orders will be ready within 4 weeks of payment being received. Although I do always aim for sooner than this. Digital orders will be ready within 2 weeks of payment being received.
– Payment is accepted via cash or EFT bank transfer (If depositing cash please add R50 for bank charges).
– No refunds are given. If for any reason you aren’t happy with your order then I will work with you until you are!
– Purchased prints must not be copied, scanned or reproduced in any way.
– Penny Carolan Photography retains copyrights on all images (even those purchased as digital files) and reserves the right to use and publish for display, publication, competitions and any other purpose and in any manner and medium; to alter the same and to copyright the same. If you do not want your images shared, please inform the photographer at the time of booking.
– It is against copyright law to alter any digital images purchased. Penny Carolan Photography edits each and every photograph produced and given to you digitally, to alter same will result in poor quality images being reproduced.
– By paying the booking fee you accept my terms and conditions.
