It is the beginning of November and the year has FLOWN by yet again.  Christmas paraphernalia is starting to show up in the shops and online and you don’t feel ready.  Here are my top 5 reasons why I think having Christmas photos taken will help you this year.

1. To get into the Christmas Spirit

If you really want to start feeling the joy of the Christmas season a great way to do that is to go for a Christmas photoshoot.  I have a number of Christmas themed “props” that will get everyone laughing and having fun and getting you excited for the season ahead.

2. Create priceless memories

Every year since my first child was born I have done a Christmas themed photoshoot.  I love seeing how they grow and change each year.  Granted now that my kids are older they aren’t so keen on the idea but until they are 18 they will have no choice as I know these are moments I will cherish when they are out the house and on their own.

3. The perfect gift

Having Christmas photos taken also allows you the opportunity to create some amazing personalised gifts for your family or even yourselves.  There is so much you can do, have a canvas printed, photobook, calendars, coasters, puzzles, exercise book, mugs.  I’m not sure about you but buying presents for Grandparents can be quite difficult which is why I opt for creating a photo gift for them.  They love their annual calendars now and request one every year.  Here is an example of a photo collage I had printed on canvas for a client.

4. Personalised Christmas Decorations

I love Christmas decorations, I always try and find different ones that I can add to my tree, however since moving back to South Africa finding the variety of decorations I used to get overseas has been more limited.  So now I make decorations from the Christmas photos I take of my kids and add the year onto each decoration so I know when they were taken.  My kids LOVE looking back over the decorations each year we put the tree up.

5. Capture a Childs wonder

Is there anything more magical than believing in Santa and the magic of Christmas?  The excitement they feel is something I wish I could bottle up.  Having Christmas photos taken can capture that exciting time for all of you.

Just a little word from a tired photographer.  Christmas is pretty much the only time of the year that studio photographers spend a fortune on backdrops to charge discounted rates to work more hours behind the lens and behind the computer to try and create memories for clients that we hope they will cherish.  Please be mindful of this fact when booking your shoots.  When you say you would like a slot, please pay for the slot straight away, by holding that slot for you and payment not being received may result in a loss of income for the photographer – the amount of times people come back and say a week or two later, no I don’t want that slot is far to often.  When your slot is booked, please also keep to that slot, please don’t message your photographer the day before and ask to postpone your shoot, obviously there are circumstances that can’t be helped but with the lead up to Christmas, it is extremely difficult for a photographer to find another gap to fit you in, it may mean loosing out on other bookings or them spending less time with their families as they try and get your images to you in time for Christmas.

Here’s to an exciting festive season ahead.  Please get in touch if you would like to book.  I have a handful of slots still available.
