It’s been a while.
Actually, it’s been a really long while since I last sat down to write a blog post.
Almost three years, to be exact.
And if I’m being completely honest, I’m not entirely sure where those years have gone!
Life has a funny way of doing that. One minute you’re planning what you’re going to write about next, and before you know it, months have turned into years and you realise you haven’t stopped to put any of it into words.
So, here I am… starting again.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Penny, the photographer behind Penny Carolan Photography, based in Howick, KZN. Photography has been such a huge part of my life for well over 18 years, and I still feel incredibly lucky that I get to spend my days photographing some of life’s most precious moments.
Maternity bumps.
Tiny newborn fingers and toes.
Those beautiful, sleepy newborn cuddles.
Growing families.
Crazy, happy children.
Birthday celebrations.
School milestones.
Corporate Portraits.
And all those little moments in between that we often don’t realise are important until we look back.
Over the past couple of years, life has changed in many ways. My business has grown and evolved, my family has grown and changed, and, like most of us, I’ve had seasons where life has simply been busy.
But one thing hasn’t changed…
I still love photography.
I still love watching a new Mom and Dad with their brand new baby.
I still love capturing the personalities of children exactly as they are at that particular age.
I still love the chaos of family sessions — the giggles, the cuddles, the children who don’t want to sit still, and the moments that happen completely unexpectedly.
And I still believe that photographs become more valuable as the years go by.
Perhaps that is why I feel ready to start writing again.
I want this blog to be more than just a place to share pretty photographs.
I want to share some of the things I’ve learnt over the years — about photography, motherhood, families, children and preserving memories.
I’ll share photography tips, ideas for your sessions, what to wear, stories from behind the camera, advice for photographing your growing family, and hopefully a little encouragement to get in front of the camera yourself every now and then.
Because I know how easy it is to say:
“I’ll do it when I lose a little weight.”
“The kids are too wild at the moment.”
“We need to wait until Dad can be there.”
“I’ll book a family shoot when life settles down.”
But life rarely settles down, does it?
And sometimes the photographs we treasure most aren’t the perfectly posed ones. They’re the photographs that remind us exactly who we were at that moment in our lives.
So, after two years of silence…
I’m back….
Thank you for being here.
Now, let’s catch up. ❤️
