We are currently in the middle of lockdown in South Africa and the days are passing in a blur of multi-tasking. I just thought I would share a few ideas of how you can fill some time (if you have any spare).
How many of you take thousands of images with your phone and then leave them on there, maybe you upload a few to social media but otherwise they just sit! I just want to encourage you to DOWNLOAD THOSE IMAGES! If you loose your phone or it crashes and all the images you have left are those ones on social media, when you try re-download those images from social media they will be very low resolution so trying to print from those images will result in very poor quality.
I try download my images monthly. I have a few external hard drives (I have had external hard drives fail so I have taken to having atleast 2 for my backups). For my personal files, I file them in year order, month order and then I have a folder for unedited files as well as edited files. So it goes 2020 / January / Unedited or High Res JPEGs. The reason I have two folders in the monthly folders is that if you choose to edit an image to make it black and white and you save it over your original image you won’t be able to get the colour version back once its been saved, so I always have the original available if I change my mind about how I want the image edited.
Once you have downloaded your images print them! We take images because they make us happy and want to remind us of special times. If you have had professional images taken I really hope you have had those printed to be displayed on your walls. If you don’t want them to be framed or put onto canvas then how about making photobooks? My kids have loved looking through all the photobooks I have made over the years.

The company I get my personal albums printed with is Rapid Studio (https://za.rapid.studio). They are based in Joburg but if you have an order over R290 your order is couriered to you for free. They currently have a 3 for 2 special running at the moment for photobooks and canvases however the special ends today. I have placed an order for myself and will be designing it over the lockdown period so that it is ready to send to them when the lockdown ends. From experience I know that my albums are always quite full so I added some extra pages to my album before ordering it. I have downloaded the Rapid Studio application so I can design my own Albums.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help.
I hope you have found this useful.
